The Hope in Christ

"Lord I have never spoken to you
But now I want to say 'how do you do?'
You see God they told me you didn't exist
And like a fool I believed all this
Last night from a shell hole I saw your sky
I figured right then they had told me a lie
Had I taken time to see the things you made
I would have known they were not calling a spade a spade.
I wonder God if you'll take my hand
Somehow God I feel you'll understand
Funny I had to come to this hellish place
Before I had time to see your face.
Well I guess there isn't much to say
But I'm sure glad God I met you today
I guess zero hour will soon be here
But I'm not afraid since I know you are near.

Well God I'll have to go,
I like you lots I want you to know
Look now this will be a horrible fight
Who knows I'll come to your house tonight.
Though I wasn't friendly to you before
I wonder God if you'd wait at your door.
Look, I'm crying, I'm shedding tears, I'll have to go now God Goodbye
Strange now since I met you, I'm not afraid to die."

The above poem was found on the body of a nineteen-year-old American solider in Vietnam, and the author of the poem was unknown. May be the poem was written the night before he died, I don't know. But, I am very sure his one on one conversation with God that night was very intimate and profound. I just wanted to throw light on three specific lines of this poem. Firstly, Isn't it amazing when he gazed at the firmament through a shell hole, He was convinced that for all those nineteen-years he was believing a lie? This reminds us, that "The creation speaks immensely about The Creator". Secondly, "But I'm sure Glad, God I met you today" Our life is never complete with out God, He is the only hope for mankind, and only in Him we can find peace, and trade our sorrows for joy. Thirdly, "Strange now since I met you, I'm not afraid to die". He was able to face the death boldly, He was assured of "How his life's going to be after his death" When I read the last line, what came to my mind was Romans 8:31, 35 "What shall we then say to these things? if God be for us, who can be against us? who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?.

My dear friend, I do not know what circumstances you are in, may be you are overwhelmed by your finances, marriage, or a relationship. There will be those lonesome moments in our lives in which we feel we are sailing alone in the midst of tempestuous storms of life, and we feel nobody was there on our side. It is in those times, God would become so dear to us, He reminds us time and again "He will never leave nor forsake us". Here is a God who loves us unconditionally, and He says in Mathews 11:28-30, "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light."

No one remembered the name of the nineteen-year-old solider that died in Vietnam. But, God never forgot him, He loved that solider and his poem so much, today many famous bible preachers around the world quote this poem in their sermons. Each one of us is special in His eyes as it is written in Isiah "I carved thee in my palm." My dear friend remember we can trust Him, and we have hope only in Him. Isn't He amazing!! Isn't He wonderful!!

May God encourage your heart!!
In His Everlasting Grace,
Isaac.
